MESS wins jr. soccer Mount Elizabeth Secon- dary School's senior soccer team may not. have won the senior high school zone championships last October, but next year they may have a stronger chance at the title. The MESS junior soccer team won the junior high schoo] zone championships. on Sunday in Smithers, and since. Kitimat coach Rick Brayton is losing almost an entire team from the dominant squad that swept their season, the senior ‘team's prospects look better than ever for the 1981 season. Meanwhile, the junior team won {wo straight games to win the junior high zone final, beating Houston 3-1 in their first game and_ blanking Smithers 2-0 in the championship game. Other teams competing in the zone final were Booth Memorial Junior Secondary from Prince Rupert, Ocean Falls Secondary and Hazelton Secondary. The Kitimat squad went 23 games without a loss this season, counting the games that both of the MESS teams won, Somany players turned out that Brayton fielded two teams of almost equal quality to play for the school. “We lose almost one complete team,"’ Brayton said. “We are left with one complete team for next year, ‘though, so we'll be able to start next year's season in roughly the same shape we started this one in, with one team of experienced players and one of rookies.” ' Brayton was proud of his team's play over the course of the season, in which the teams didn’t lose a game. “We've been working really hard since February and we've been strong all season as a result,” Brayton said, “The score of the final game indicates the type of play we’ve been. producing all season, with not only good offence but with our goaltenders and fullbacks playing very well to put together a two-way game,” “They didn’t let anyone past at all.’ . Brayton has high hopes for next year’s team, and feels that if the teams will be strong enough they will be able to travel to some southern tournaments to get a taste of the competition. ' “We're expecting a good season next year,” Brayton said, “Again.” Rupert teams make games The Zone Seven soccer playoffs for berths in the B.C.
