Mayor & Council Alderman P.F. Ranger You are no doubt aware of the large snow pack in the mountains this year and the flood threat that it poses to many of our residents. A preliminary "emergency programme" meeting was held with representa- tives from Port Coquitiam, Coquitlam, Riverview Hospital, and the R.C.M.P. The purpose of the meeting was to review essential Intermunicipal flood preparations as well as vulnerability and response capability. As a result of our discussions I would recommend that our Emergency Measures By-law (formerly Civil Defence) be updated. This would give the Mayor authority to take emergency actions in the event of a flood. I would also recommend that Council issue a policy statement with vegard to property protection priorities. This would give staff direction as to what type of improvements would be given protection priority by staff in the event of 2 flood. The other items discussed will be dealt with by staff. This includes communications methods, dyke patrols and repairs, rescue and evacuation assis- tance and health and welfare problems that may arise. We hope none of our plans will have to be put into action. Respectfully submitted, Alderman Phil Ranger.
