CITY OF VANCOUVER i ae BRITISH COLUMBIA VANCOUVER โ€˜ V5SY iVe4 CANADA OFFICE OF THE MAYOR GORDON CAMPBELL MAYOR March 12, 1987 โ€™ His Worship Mayor Len Traboulay City of Port Coquitlam 2272 McAllister Avenue Port Coquitlam, B.C. V3C 2A8 Dear Mayor Traboulay: Re: Western Grain Transportation Act (Proposed Amendments) Attached for your information is a report of Vancouver City Council's Standing Committee on Finance and Priorities dated February 26, 1987, together with the relevant Manager's report prepared by our Economic Development Office, dealing with a proposed amendment to the Western Grain Transportation Act regarding the export of grains. If this amendment were approved by the Federal Government, the specialty grain traffic handled by the Port of Vancouver could be lost, putting at risk the Port's entire container trade, with the corresponding loss of thousands of jobs in the regional economy. At our meeting of March 10th, Council resolved to convey its opposition to the propesed amendment to the Western Grain Transportation Act to the Minister of Transport, the Honourable John Crosbie. In view of the potential impacts, this issue is significant to the entire Region. I have requested the G.V.R.D. to oppose the amendment, and I am herewith asking for your support in this initiative, also. Yours very truly, , an a 4โ€ ptr GORDON CAMPBELL ยข Mayor 47
