TERRACE — The last gold bar
is-being poured this week as
Skyline Gold's Johnny Moun-
tain mine in the Iskut Valley
north of Stewart prepares to
close down.

Ore reserves that don't con-

tain enough gold and a mill not
designed for the ore being min-
ed made for financial problems
since the mine opened two years
ago and ultimately - led to. the
decision to close. .

Bretseld has lived in Terrace
for the past five years, first
working for the Terrace and
District Community Services
Society and then as a consultant
in language therapy.

Although her new job is dif-
ferent-than ones held previous-
ly, Bretseld said it involves the

same elements of providing a

challenge and of dealing with
people.

operating gold operation in the
Iskut Valley which is considered
one of the more promising
precious mineral areas in the
province,

There will, however, be
another mine opening in the
Iskut early: next year when
Cominco brings its SNIP opera-
tion into, production.

1,070 government-owned pro-

the provincial government
under regulations announced
last month. —
There had been no specific
regulation concerning reporting
spills.
Fines of $200,000 can be
levied for failure to report, said
environment minister John
