Two major items to be ad- dressed are discounts for seniors and disabled patrons, and the length of-stay and size of party permitted at the Ferry Island Campsite. . The idea for a discount sched- ule -for .seniors: and disabled campers comes from Superin- tendent of Parks and Recreation Steve Scott. Current overnight rates at-the city’s campground are $7, and $9 at sites with electrical power. But Scott says -a check with area campsites showed that all, with the excep- tion of Ferry Island, offer a 50 percent discount to seniors and disabled campers. When this idea came before council, however, alderman Danny Sheridan raised another point — the number of com- plaints he says he has received about Ferry Island being ‘plugged up with tree planters”’. Sheridan wonders if there shouldn’t be some kind of con- trol imposed on this kind of campground usage. City administration, though, may already have the situation under control. Parks and Facilities Manager Dale McFad- den says tree planters generally use the campground in‘May and June and are gone by the height of the tourist. season. He says they are offered a special rate as long as park useage is low but are charged the full rate when the campsite begins to fill up. | - McFadden says this year tree planters set up a camp kitchen in one campsite, while tree planters pitched their own tents at sites throughout the campground. Where they doubled up on one "site, they were charged the regu- lar rate for that site, but once tourists begin arriving tree planters ate charged the regular rate for each camper or tent at each individual site. In other words, a single camp- site with a camper vehicle and two tents would pay three times the rate for that site. He says this same principle applies to tourists who may be travelling together and using only one site. As far as the length of their stay is concerned, McFadden says that even though it’s not in writing, campers are told there is _ a two-week limit when the campground is full. Council may make a decision on any recommendations. made by the committee as early as Monday. - "Ferrace Review — Wednesday, Suly 19,1989 27 ~Campir g fee discount discussed : . Shames money in limbo - The long-awaited announce- ment that the last four kilom- eters of the Shames Mountain road will be completed is still on hold. As of noon yesterday, the fate of Shames Mountain was still in the hands of the Ministry of Regional Development, who are awaiting a cabinet decision, according to Ministry of Trans- portation and Highways Public Affairs Officer Betty Nicholson. Last week the Terrace Review reported that funding for the completion of the Shames Mountain road was facing its “final hurdle’? — but it turned out to be just another of several ’ government delays. Funding for the project was approved by the Treasury Board on July 6 and went to Cabinet on July 12. Cabinet, however, returned the’ Treasury Board proposal to be *‘reworked’’. . |, 2,000: ma/day; - CHARACTERISTICS OF CONTAMI TYPE OF TREATMENT: none. fluent; TYPE OF TREATMENT: septic tank. . FGH Concrete, also appar- ently owned by Eichhorst, is ‘not, Grete Eichhorst is listed as ‘the only principal in two local companies: Eastend Holdings Ltd. incorporated on July. 14, 1981, and FGH Concrete and — Building Products: Ltd. incor- porated on Apr. 18, 1983. This ‘means that there isn’t a direct financial link between GE and FGH but it is all in the family. The third ready-mix supplier, : Eastend Concrete isn’t in the ' phone book and isn’t registered as a limited company. It does, however, load ‘concrete at the ~FGH batch plant which is owned by Grete Eichhorst, who : also owns Eastend Holdings. — It's interesting to. note that . there is a fourth concrete opera- tion but it doesn’t sell ready- mix, This: is Skeena Concrete Products, which produces and | sells concrete products from the -FGH property.
