POCO "HAPPY TIMES" Parent Participation Pre-School 1625 Western Drive, Port Coquitlam, B.C. V3C 2x1/ Pebruary 5, 1976. ° Mayor Jack Campbell and Council, City Hall, 2272 McAllister, Port Coquitlam, B.C, Gentlemen; PoCo "Happy Times” Pre-School is in the process of looking for new premises. We ere inquiring into the possibility of our using the Public Library building in Leigh Square when it is vacated. We were informed last May by Southside Baptist Church, where we are presently situnted, that our lease would not be renewed after this year. Upon receiving that information our Premises Committee immediately began investigeting every conceivable possibility for re-location. To date, we have had no success. It was in 1972 that.a group of parents first started organizing our pre~school. After a lot of hard work, which included building equipment, raising funds, finding a teacher and location, etc. the school opened in 1973. Since that time we have operated at full capacity, with large waiting lists each year. The need for pre= schools in Port Coquitlam is very evident. Mayor Jack Campbell and Council, February 5, 1976, page 2. Our pre-school is non-profit and parent- participating. We have a fully-yualified, licenced teacher and two parent-helpers with her each day. Our enrolment consists of fifteen three~year-olds and cighteen fuureyear-olds. Our hours of operation this year have been as follows: three-year-olds ~ Mondays and Thursdays 9:30 - 11:30 four-year-olds ~ Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Pridays 9:15 ~ 11:30 These hours, of course, could be altered to suit the situation, We do not need to occupy new premises immediately, but we do have to know very soon whether premises are avuilable for September so that we can renew our teacher's contract and begin next year's enrolment. After having such support and expressed need from the people of this community for a service such as our pre-school provides, it would, indced, be a shame if it were allowed to dissolve. Especially, since only at a later date would another group of concerned parents repeat the process and begin anew what we have already accomplished. This, then, is the reason for our request to you. We are running out of time if we are to continue in September. Naturally, I can only briefly describe our pre-school and its needs to you in a letter, but the Premises Committee of PoUo "Happy Times” Pre-School would be more than pleased to enlarge
