Reese Neate ney Seu enter yearn, —_ MEMO ~ JUL2 3 1973 -— TO: Mayor and Aldermen DATE: July 20, 1973 FROM: Alderman Meyer RE: Joint Meeting of the Environmental Protection Sub Committee and Recreational Committee - July 19, 1973 Presents: Subject: Comments: Alderman Meyer Alderman Laking Alderman Traboulay V.G. Borch, P.Eng., City Engineer K.J, Stinson, Planning Officer Future Use of Foreshore Area of Pitt and Fraser Rivers South of Lougheed Highway. . It was noted that a great deal of discussion has taken place in Council over the past several years as to the recreational potential of this foreshore area, Notable examples are provided by location of the Poco Trail there, last years Council resolution opposing storage of logs in the Pitt River, and Council's recent decision against a Mary Hill by-pass. Unlike the area north of the Lougheed, however, no formal Council state- ment has been made. At this time when serious decisions and negotiations are taking place with regard to land use, both at a local and provincial level, we believe it is important that such a statement of intent be made. Recommendation: The two Committees jointly recommend that Council policy be affirmed to protect the foreshore area of the Pitt and Fraser Rivers for the purpose of safeguarding and developing their recreational potential,
