‘So much for moderation An Open Letter To: CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE TERRACE STANDARD Columbia. The streamlining of regula- Premier Gordon Campbell, Province of British Columbia Dear Mr. Premier: In our province, the citizens are noted for their polar- ized politics. You and your government are doing more to strengthen those adversarial differences than building bridges and trying to find consensus and dialogue. A government in power has a responsibility to try and bridge political differences while carrying out its politi- cal agenda. ~ The British Columbia public understands when a new political party takes control of the provincial government change is expected. That is how our democratic govern- ing process with all of its frailties functions. What you do not understand or seem to care about is that British Columbians expect careful, well researched change that is carried out in a balanced way. | You were not elected to go as far with your changes as you are taking the province. So much for the moderation you trumpeted would guide government policies’ that are now being imple- mented. And where is the respect for 40 per cent of the eligible voters who did not vote for your party. I consider myself a social democrat, with a slight lean to the left, a person who is probably more comfort- able as a true liberal. My understanding is that the philo- sophy (and ] thought) the mandate of the Liberal party was to atlempt to balance divergent points of view. I can understand and support a modest tax cut and a carefully thought out and planned streamlining of regula- tions, that sends our a message that business and free enterprise has a very important role to play in British The Mail Bag tions could have a very ne- gative impact upon many facets of our lives, For that reason the public needs to be given the opportunity to provide input to that change. The same message should be sent out to the public service and crown corporations that also play a critical role in our economic and social well being in this great province. 1] am quite convinced that you and your government believes that the fox can indeed do an effective job of looking after the hen house. With all the very many negative environmental wam- ing signals that we see, learn about and even experience on a daily basis, you have no business abandoning the environment. Super Natural British Columbia, the relatively clean environment that we still enjoy and the fish and wildlife of B.C. makes our province a special place and contri- butes to the tourism industry which is our second largest economic generator. You and your government can not take for granted that these natural attributes and the benefits that they provide will remain if you continue along this wrongly chosen path that you are now taking. The NDP government who made some bad choices and poor decisions were not as radical in their thinking as your party. They did not make policies that sent this province down a road that could not be reversed ar al- tered. Poor economic decisions can be over time amended and corrected, but bad resource and environmental deci- sions can have a huge and profound long term impact that may not be correctable, they did not make many of those kind of bad choices. Jim Culp, Terrace, B.C. MLA must show leadership Dear Sir: I met with Skeena Lib- erat MLA Roger Harris a few weeks ago to discuss the impact of the Liberals’ cuts to Terrace and how this would impact child protection services in the north-west. At that time, he told me that he was expecting the Liberal party to move more towards MLA’s re- -presenting their home community rather than fol- lowing the party line, He gave his position on Mercer as an example of ‘his willingness to take a position in opposition to ‘his own party, > In reading last week's é paper, our MLA is rationa- lizing draconian cutbacks to his home community — representing Victoria to Terrace rather than the other way around. We do not chose our Dear Sirr elected leaders so that I don’t know what happened to Gordon Campbell; he seemed like such a nice guy before the election. Must be some- thing in the water down there? It doesn’t take many helicopter trips to fly injured people to Prince George to pay for a lot of hospital expenses. People don’t want to live in an area with no hos- pital. Sure, there's been lots of turmoil...the markets are playing new music each day, the economy is slow- ing its’ dance, but investors should remember the steps are always the same. As analysts offer their economic predictions, many investors are left wary. They know that picking the “winners” isn’t easy - the high tech shakeout of 2000 proved that. Many ‘hot’ companies climbed the mountain only to fall off the cliff on the other side. Tuning the market became a daily game for many new investors, trying to tap into some of the stratospheric returns of the dot- com craze. But while life’s lessons are often learned the hard way, It doesn’t mean inves- tors should stay away from jittery markets. Professional investors weather many ups and downs but they know to stick with a solid strategy. With the right knowledge, the right discipline, and proper diversification, you can also feel confident in your choices, even in today's market. Here’s how. - FIRST —- Do your research. Research the company you're thinking of investing in or research the mutual fund returns. SECOND - Diversity. Build a portfallo with a strategic mix of growth stocks (equities), Income investments (bonds) and safe investments (cash). THIRD — Remember why you invested in the first place. investments in equity-based mutual funds, or in the individual stocks themselves, require the commitment of time. Iron, an essential mineral, is needed daily to transport oxygen, via the blood, to all of the cells, tissues, and organs in the body. Without iron, these cells, tissues, and organs suffer from a ‘lack of oxygen’, leading to a substantial decrease in energy levels. Dr. Cathy Carlson-Rink, a naturopathic doctor specializing in women’s health, states that, “there are three major factors affecting energy levels in women. First, stress levels are at an’ all time high. When the body is under stress, it releases hormones to help us cope. However, if the stress is continuous, the constant production of these hormones exhausts the adrenal glands, causing fatigue. Secondly, the madern dict is based on convenience rather than nutrient dense, whole foods. Poor dietary choices like this are causing many nutrient deficiencies. As food is the body’s fuel source, the better our diet, the more energy we will have. Thirdly, as the statistics are showing us, iron deficiericy is a major problem among women. Without proper iron intake, energy levels will decrease rapidly, This makes want to have high energy levels”. . The Energy for Life program offers easy to apply solutions for regaining and maintaining energy levels. “One of the worst feelings in life is not having enough energy to do the things you want to do” says Dr. the need for supplementing iron into the diet vital ifyou — main causes of this ‘energy crisis’ by showing you how to reduce stress, improve your diet using whole, nutrient rich, foods, and by introducing a high quality iron supplement called Floradix Liquid Iron.” _Because of its unique formula, the majority of naturopathic doctors worldwide are using Floradix Liquid Iron in their practices. Floradix uses liquid iron gluconate, the most bioavailable form, in order to offer a superior absorption rate compared to tablets and capsules that tend to be constipating. As well, B vitamins, vitamin C, and digestive herbs have been added to further enhance absorption. The daily use of Floradix, causes iron levels to rise quickly and as result, energy levels are increased and maintained in a relatively short time. “The program is not only for those with low energy ‘levels, All women from the time of menstruation - through to menopause can experience positive health . benefits by reducing stress, eating properly, and “supplementing daily -with iron” states Dr. Carlson-Rink To find out more information and to receive your FREE copy of Energy for Life by Dr. Cathy Cartson-Rink, visit your local health food store.
