It was formed of two separate societies — one governing Mills Memorial Hospital and the other Terraceview Lodge. “The idea’ was to provide one goveming structure for two health care institutions. Dennis said he’s looking for- ward to the council formation as a way of improving health and re- lated care, “Health care isn’t hospitals anymore. There other things, You'll. find that education on health issues, prevention, will be play a major role,”’ he added. “T'll be the first to admit the health care players have not co- ordinaled very well. There have been turf issues or whatever you | want to call them,”’ said Dennis. He cautioned that the com- munity health council is still some time away from being formed. “We hope to first get a wide level of participation from the community, set up the terms of Teference and go into the make up of the council,’’ he said. sites lose battle particularly hard hit in recent years, Childs added. Vandalism ‘traditionally starts on the May long weekend as pre- grad parties get underway, he said. He urged users of the rec sites to take care and to use the ap- propriate garbage containers. That work began last fall after a provincial study of the hospitals found the hospitals do have enough money but that it would be better spent if there was more co-ordination and planning of ser- vices and use of resources, - Community health councils will eventually join together for a regional health council responsible for broad health care issues in the northwest.
