B2 Terrace Review — Wednesday, April 10, 1991 Eee ene Coast team takes ‘All-Native Ladies Basketball title Lax-kw-alaams in four straight Prince Rupert’s Lax-kw- alaams put together a record of four straight wins to capture the B.C. All Native Ladies Basket- ball championship held in Ter- race on Easter weekend. : It was a 12-team, double- knockout series with entries mostly from this area. The Rupert gals won the title on a 93-73 victory over the defending champs from Port Alberni. Lax-kw-alaams road to tri- umph included an opening round bye, then victories over Kispiox and Greenville before defeating Port Alberni 86-71 in the ‘A’ side final. This dropped Alberni to ‘B’ side where they needed to win for another shot at Rupert. _. Meanwhile, on ‘B’ side, Greenville earned a berth in the ‘B’ final by beating the Terrace Native Selects 55-50. In the final Port Alberni bounced Greenville 97-75 to gain their revenge match against the Lax ladies. Lax-kw-alaams went home with the top prize of $1,000. Se- cond place Alberni earned $700 -for-their finish, while Greenville Aces picked up $400 for third place. Twelve players were named to the tournament all-star team.
