Pe ge a ae eT Skeena runners swifter in Terrace-to-Rupert relay The opening road race of the season has gone to the Skeena Valley Runners’ Club of Ter- race. It was the March 23 annual relay race between the Prince Rupert and Terrace clubs, start- ing at 7 a.m. in Terrace. Organizer Ed Ansems of Ter- race claimed a victory of about 15 minutes by Terrace over Rupert. Terrace (with 14 run- ners) crossed the finish line in nine hours, 37 minutes. Rupert’s time (16 runners) was nine hours, 52 minutes. Last year the race ran from the coast city to Terrace, with Rupert posting a winning time of 10 hours, 16 minutes. It was about 15 minutes up on Terrace (a reverse of the margin for this year). “‘The lead changed hands several times,’’ Ed told us. ‘‘By 10 o’clock, Rupert was about 10 minutes in the lead. By 12:30 Terrace was ahead by 10 minutes,’’ Ansems said that by 1:30, they were running head-to-head ’til Terrace got second wind and went in front to stay. ‘The weather was great,”’ ac- | cording to Ansems. “‘At times we ran shirtless. Along the Skeena we saw hundreds of seagulls and lots of eagles. It was. quite a sightseers day. We even. saw some trumpeter swans resting in a pool and some sea lions,’’ Mixed results for ringette girls in P.G. Terrace Ringette wound up its season on March 23 weekend by travelling to Prince George for “B’ and ‘C’ division provincial championships. Our Petite girls (11 and under) played under the sponsorship of the Order of the Royal Purple. They played five games, but un- fortunately lost every one. Our Juniors fared much bet- ter. The 14- and 15-year-olds performed in ‘C’ division, where they won two and lost one. They made it to the final where they lost 5-2 to Burns Lake. Last year the Juniors won this division, but had to settle for second-place silver this year. hard in the season just recently ended. wad . . ae Terrace Review — Wednesday, April 3, 1991 B3 Elementary school basketball teams Below and on the next page are the boys’ and girls’ elementary school baketball teams that practiced and played AAS a} VERITAS SCHOOL om?
