Ralph Pentland, Director Water Nanagement Branch Inland Waters Directorate 9th Floor St. Joseph Blvd, 351 Hull, Quebec Dear Nr. Pentland2 I am writing as a follow-up to our meeting of June 6, 1986 with George Aldermaan, c't Port C oquitlam respecting Baking of the Coquitlam Riveri yFlood Protection project. As you are aware, the City of Port Coquitlam has been pursuing the above-mentioned project for quite some time. The good health and safety of the residents of continued theiz Municipality rests cn an early completion of this vital project. This is the basis for the Councils and dedication to this issue and, to this concern end, they are anxious to see it underway in the very near future. I would like to reiterate some of the major points made at our meeting. One portion of the area requiring flood protection clans through an Indian Reserve and second through the Provincially-owned Colony Farm property. Presently, neither of these two sections are scheduled for inclusion in the prcject. However, as we have been assured bZ Nac Clark, Regional Director, Inland Waters Directionate, under a Provincial-federal ' Ag lll tto *. properties required to maintaind the11 integrity ~PI*-t of the system. Initially, a study must be done to determine the appropriate form of flood protection for all sections of the system. The actual design and construction of the system will commence upon the completion of the s tudy. The Coquitlam River The current Provincial-Federal Agreement became effective October 10, 1905 and is scheduled to terminate Narch 31, 1995. The Coquitlam River project has been deemed viable and has consequently been included as one of the 11 projects to be undertaken through this Agreement. A suggested time frame is: commission the Initial Study of Operational Requirements in the near future; contract out the working drawings. and plans- 1 to 2 years; commence construction- 3 to 4 years. This is a rough estimate and is subject to change . As per your direction, Alderman Laking will address any further queries to Nac clark of your vancouver Branch. I trust that 1 have accuratly summarised our meeting. Please contact me should you feel there are any discrepancies. I appreciate your attention to this matter and would like to thank you for your time and co-operation . Sincerelyr Janet Roberts, Executive Assistant IR limni Nil 1I .. M. Nr. Mr. Murphy made a personal r I I presentation to the Committee on July T7,. 1986. I'n cons I dart ng'r. Murphy 's letter, ths Committee noted that for each ten newspaper recycl Ing days per month, the curb-side newspaper recyc ing orogram removes on the average 35 tonnes of newspaper from local restdents. This amount of newspaper If diverted into the domestic refuse stream, would cost ths City approximately an additions $ 900 00 In d i sposa fees alone The Committee therefore recommends that S.H.A.R.E Society s request for $ 500.00 to purchase one half of ths needed blue recycl ing bags be approved.
