~-%- Rach G.V.R.D. Municipality may prefer a different approach to protecting Green Zone Lande (it is up to each Municipality to identify ways to protect the Green Zone lands aa the only body having jurisdiction). Many Green areaa may have numerous values; flexibility and creativity will be needed to develop management strategies that encourage multiple uses of such areas. The implementation of the Green Zone is proposed as a interim Municipal process where each Municipality would identify appropriate lands to become part of the Greater Vancouver's Green Zone, and ensure that they are adequately protected for the long term. The first suggested step for implementation ia to prepare and inventory of the Green Lands. Municipalities will undertake this task in the framework set out by the Region. The G.V.R.D. will consolidate the Municipal inventories into a regional inventory and will review this inventory to determine whether it meets the goals and objectives for the Green zone as set out in "Creating our Future". The second implementing step will be to analyse the regional inveatory to identify Green Lands that are inadequately protected. (In private lands, subject to development pressures, etc.). . The third step of implementation will identify and analyae policy options for protecting Green Lands. These options will range from acquisition of landa, to establish new policies, to regulatory frameworks that may assist the protection of the Green Lande. The fourth step ia to develop actiona plana for the sites in the Green Zone inventory that are inadequately protected. These action plans will be different for each particular situation that may need action. DISCUSSTIGN:s By identifying this lande and ensuring they are protected from intensive urban development, Municipalities will assist the G.V.R.D. in understanding how much growth the region can accommodata and assist in maintaining a legacy of natural heritage. The Green Zone designation does not in itself protect lands that, for whatever reason, a Municipality wants to see left totally undisturbed (additional measures are required for these lands), neither prevent the City from, where appropriate, develop recreational facilities or permit other types of development of a lesser intensity than atandard urban development. i Carios Fetin,tfZArch., M.C.1.P.
