RITISH COLUMBIA a President’s Message This year, the longer nights and cooler weather seems to have crept up on us here on the lower mainland. It has been a beautiful October, but I am fully aware that it will not last. Perhaps the change in weather will drive me out of the gardens and back to the studio, near those nice little space heaters. Since we are now moving toward our 60th anniversary in 2015, the new board is busy thinking of ways to celebrate and put a fresh new stamp on the guild. A time to begin thinking about and planning events to commemorate the occasion, celebrating the history of the PGBC while at the same time refreshing and bringing the guild forward for the next generation. Many of the new changes/ additions involve the expanded use of the new communications media to reach more and new members, I was down in Colorado last month and, while there, was convinced by my brother-in-law to purchase a tablet android device. I have always called myselfa “select Luddite” in the past but I must say 1am being more and more seduced by the myriad of ways we can communicate with each other these days and some of the devices with which to accomplish this. With these things in mind, the younger members of the board are bringing forward many new ideas on way we can increase/streamline/update/change the communication coming out of the guild. We now do Facebook, Twitter and are in the process of setting up an “Etsy Street Team” to help our customers see what other products you, our guild members, make that are not available at the gallery or when they want to order online. Again, the call goes out to find new board members that want to bring new ideas and energy to this organization. If you are by any chance interested, contact me. The next AGM is in February when any new board members will be sworn in. November Exhibition: Kinichi Shigeno - Shoerealism Nov. 7 to 26. Our last exhibition in 2013! Opening: Thursday, Nov. 7, 5 to 7 p.m. Artist in attendance. Cash bar. Shoerealism explores contemporary sculptural forms and surface designs that originate from a continual experimental study of diverse everyday objects that have a common place in our lives. The shoe forms are as diverse as the people who could wear them or who could appreciate them as sculpture coming from our mutual or divergent experiences. ‘The patterns are reflective of images blended from my experience and understanding of two cultures. I have abstracted these images to reinterpret and to blend them to create motifs that reinterpret design and form as well as explore the connection between art and craft. —Kinichi Shigeno Potters Guild of BC Newsletter - November 2043 Recent work by Kinichi Shigeno.
