YVONNE MOEN ANOTHER Terraceview resident recently celebrated a milestone birthday — Sadie Gag- nier turned 100 years old on March 15. Sadie Gagnier (Doucette) was born in 1897 in Minnesota. She came from a large family of 12 children — six boys and six girls. In 1903 her parents Gideon and Josephine Doucette moved to a homestead in Sas- katchewan. Sadie lives at Terraceview Lodge and staff there joined forces with the Terrace Regional Museum Society to help her celebrate her landmark birthday. made wine. Both her parents lived on the farm until they died. Sadie helped on the farm until she was married — on August 24, 1914. She and her husband farmed at Rosthern, Sas- katchewan and later moved to the Peace River area, settling on a ranch at Dawson Creek. Sadie’s husband died there. Sadie’s adopted son Gerry was bom in 1924. He was her only child and he brought her to Terrace to live with him after her husband died. Gerry died in Terrace in 1980. ‘Sadie had depended on her son Gerry and she was very unhappy at being left alone. Few people visited her and she became isolated, until she entered Terraceview Lodge. Now Terraceview is her home and the residents and staff are her family. Everyone there looks after her well. Of course we wish her well and congratulations on her birthday. I thank her niece, Simonne Green in Sas- katchewan for forwarding information to me — un- til now her life had been a mystery. And special thanks to Ida Mohler for the lovely entertainment on Sadie’s birthday, and to the city of Terrace for donating the birthday cake. May God bless Sadie with more good health.
