On Nav. 12, Terrace city council paid special tribute to retiring city councillor’. Ruth Hallock by finishing the council meeling early and adjouming to ihe veteran city councillor’s: Agar Ave. house. Hallock has been seriously ill for many months, but she’s fondly remembered by many residents as acting as a strang voice for local neighbourhoods, Mayor Jack Talsira also took time out on the final meeting of the current council last week to thank Gordon: Hull. and Ed Graydon for serving for the past three years. ; - “T've enjoyed having both of you here,”’ Talstra told them, adding that they both provided good input: into council's deliberations. He added that a number of council’s most significant accomplishments over the last three years might not have oc- curred without their presence. kk kok TWO REGIONAL District directors were applauded for their work over the past three years at the last board meeting of their term two weekends ago. ~The. board thanked Area E director Peggy Julseth for her hard work with the regional district. Julseth recently lost ber scal to Les Watmough. “Peggy has. contributed alot to this board,”* said director Jack Talstra. ‘‘She’s been a pleasure to work with.’ _ The board also said goodbye to Area C director Sandy Sandhals.’Sandhals recent- “ly retired from his director’s seat, with Gordon Robinson taking over by ac- clamation, “The. reasan why I decided to retire is because I thought the board. was getting loo decadent,’ the senior director joked. “T wanted to make room for some second growth, but it didn’t turn out thal way.”’ Robinson is older than Sandiials, Bureau seeks grant again THE VOLUNTEER bureau is looking for renewal of its $5,000 grant from the city, Council referred: the re- quest to its finance com- mittee, The moncy is al- teady in the city’s provi- sional budget and the re- quest is expected to be ap- proved, The burcau moved into a new office on Lakelse Ave. this year and helped place dozens of volunteers, In all, nearly 14,000 hours of volunteer service were provided to 65 non-profit agencies through the past 12 months. . “This is a very deserving group,’ said councillor Rich McDaniel. ‘They Serve our community well.’’ The bureau also runs a Volunteers for seniors pro- gram and a helping hand- yman program. The city has given the bureau $5,000 in each of the last three years.
