7 Lae? > $ WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER Assessment to Aid Members Arrested On Picket Lines Over-whelming approval of a decision to levy a one dollar membership assessment for a defence fund in the pres- ent labour crisis was given by members of Local 1-217, IWA, at their local meeting November 18, in Woodworkers’ House. The assessment will raise an estimated $6,000 of which | $1,500 will be given to the B.C. Federation of Labour and the balance retained by the Local Union to aid any of their | own members facing charges on the picket lines. Regional President Jack Moore who attended the meet- ing to install the newly elected Local officers warmly sup- ported the assessment proposal in his address to the members. Local President Syd Thompson in seeking support of the | assessment warned the meeting that while organized labour | had won two great victories at Allied Engineering and Cole’s | | Bakery, the battle was far from over.
