March 9, 1992/061 A regular meeting of the Municipal Council of the Corporation of The City of Port Coquitlam was held in the Council Chambers, Port Coquitlam City Hall, 2580 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, B.C. on Monday, March 9th, 1992, at 7:30 poem. His Worship Mayor L.M. Traboulay and Aldermen M.D. Gates, M.J. Gordon, J.J. Keryluk, R.H. Talbot, M.A. Thompson and M.R. Wright were in attendance. Also in attendance were City Administrator B.R. Kirk, City Clerk/Deputy Administrator R.A. Freeman, City Engineer I. Zahynacz, and Director of Planning C.R. Felip. SPECIAL PRESENTATION: His Worship LL.M. Traboulay introduced Michael Farnworth, M.L.A. who presented Council with a cheque from the Ministry of Environment in the amount of $54,053.54, representing a grant from the Recycling Financial Assistance Program to help offset the cost of the City's recycling program. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES: Moved by Alderman Keryluk: seconded by Alderman Talbot: That the minutes of the Public Hearing and Regular Council meeting held on March 2nd, 1992 be taken as read and adopted, Carried. DELEGATION: His Worship Mayor L.M. Traboulay introduced the following people who spoke regarding the removal of the Kitchener Street traffic island. Jeffrey Clough, 2530 Patricia Avenue who stated his objections to the removal of the Kitchener Street traffic island by reading a brief attached to Council Agenda. Council members asked a number of questions of the delegation. David Mapleton, 3397 Hastings Street who Suggested that a suitable solution would to install a "No Left Turn” at the corner of Hastings. and Lougheed on Hastings Street heading south. Marti Giroux, 2645 Kitchener Street who requested that council remove the median immediately so that traffic is directed to the collector roads as they are designed for this traffic. Chris Findlay, 3566 Murchie Place who requested that Council remove the meridian before someone loses a life and would like to see the lights on Westwood are synchronized. Don Koski, 2618 Patricia Avenue suggested that the median was put in for a purpose and should remain and felt that traffic should be discouraged from residential areas.
