we, ine UNDERSIGNED, being tenants or other interested parties, are vigorously opposed to the Application to the Council of the City of Port Coquitiam to Strata Title the suites and commercial area in the McAllister Apartment building situate at 2232 McAliister Avenue in the City oF Port Coquitlam. We are opposed for a number of reasons; some of wnich are as follows: 1 There is a shortage of affordable rental units in Port Coquitlam. ‘Yo Strata Title our building would further diminish the number of such units. If our suites become Strata Titled, they could be offered for sale. while we would probably be given first option to purcnase our suites, many of us would be unable to afford to make such purchase. ‘We would then face having to seek and secure rental accommodation elsewhere. There are a number of seniors in our building. They find it convenient to reside here in the downtown area close to shopping, medical care facilities (Doctors, Dentists, Physio, etc.), pubiic transportation, Terry Fox Library, and Wilson Centre. Having to vacate would create financial hardhip for some. The promulgated notice of the Application states it is the INTENTION that the building be kept as a rental. INTENTION is not the same as GUARANTEE nor PROMISE and cannot be construeéd as such. We do not feel that our building being Strata Titled would in any way better serve the needs of the Citizens of our fair City. we wish to remain as tenants in this building close to all the amenities - not be forced to reside in other areas - perhaps even out of Port Coquitlam. If the suites are Strata Titled, sold, and re-rented, we would undoubtedly have the choice of vacating or paying even higher rent. The two bedroom suites in this building increased recently by the princely sum of $83 per month. One and three bedroom suites also increased significantly. Some of us cannot afford to move and are afraid we would be unable to find similar accommodation of equal value in a similar conveniently-situated location. We have been inconvenienced greatly this past six months by the new Owner's ambitious frenzy of activity in improving the "cosmetic beauty" of the exterior and interior common areas of our building. We are now being further stressed and distubed by being asked to support the Application to Strata Title our homes. We do not feel Secure knowing that our homes - rented by us on a month-to-month basis - may well be someone else's home within a matter of months and that we may well be obliged to vacate. 83 continued on Page wo,
