CITY of MERRITT P.O. BOX 189 - MERRITT, B.C. - VOK 2BO 2101 GRANITE AVE. - PHONE 378-4224 File 195 . March 15, 1383 Port Coquitlam 2272 McAllister Avenue ‘ . PORT COQUITLAM, BC V3C 2A8 Dear Sister Community: APR 11 1983 The early completion of the Coquihalla Pass Highway is of deep concern to the communities of central and eastern British Columbia. This includes those communities along the Trans-Canada Highway east from Kamloops as well as Hope, Merritt and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District areas and municipalities along Highway 5 from Merritt north to Tete Jaune Cache. For all of them the completion of the Coquihalla cut-off ' will drastically reduce the mileage and driving time from — the interior to the lower mainland. The City Council of Merritt has prepared the enclosed resolution calling for the early completion of the Coquihalla Pass Route. It gives the background and outlines the urgency for putting the new route into operation. The resolution has been sent to the Yellowhead Highway Association for inclusion in the agenda for the Annual Meeting to be held in’ Prince Rupert, May 6th and 7th, Because of its length the resolution will most likely be shortened, however, we would like you to have the complete text as originally written as it takes the argument in logical steps from general premises to Specific implementation. The support ef your community (or area) and of the others along the Yellowhead “Canada Hi is imperative to mass the maximum support for upgrading the south branch of the Yellowhead and for its completion the construction of the Coquihalla Pass connection. this is not done, the entire south branch of the Yellowhead risks being relegated to a position of las€ and lowest priority. 2/2 “A lake a day as long as you stay"’ 27 Mines Oe hid bab ee eee erin
