OUNCL = MAY 3- 1976 MEMO TO: Mayor & Council FROM: Building & Protection Committee The Building & Protection Committee met in the City Hall on Thursday , ‘April 29th, 1976. Present was Chairman Alderman Keryluk; Alderman Ranger; Nick Chernoff, Chief Building Inspector; Bill Wingrove, Fire Chief; and L.D. Pollock, City Administrator, Re: Use of PoCo House The question of the future use of the House previously occupied by PoCo House was referred to the Building & Protection Committee for comment. The Committee considered several alternatives for the disposition of this House: 1. Advertising the House for sale to be moved to another location; 2. Offering the House for rental as a Day Care Centre; . 3. Offering the House for rental as a private dwelling place. : With regard to the first alternative of offering the House for sale, the Committee had asked the Chief Building Inspector to look at the house from the point of view of feasibility of moving it and it was the Chief Building Inspector's opinion that the house is in reasonably good shape and it could be moved provided ; @ location could be found. He commented that as the house is located in the down- town core it cannot be moved to locations on the North side of town or out of town and it would have to be located somewhere in the South side area. In view of the : a City's House Moving By-law there would only be limited areas where the house could be moved. If a location could be found to assist the prospective purchaser in re— . locating the house the Chief Inspector felt that the sale would only net $3,000. | or $4,000. to ensure that the purchaser was able to place it on a new lot with : | ' a foundation, etc., and still keep within costs that are within reason. The Committee considered that the alternative of offering the House for use as a Day Care Centre would not be practical. The 2 Day Care Centres that have asked the City to help them find locations have stated that they would only be in operation from September through till May. This would mean that the place would remain vacant for 3 months out of the year and may be subject to vandalism. ~-...cont'd. Pace —~ 2 .
