Cartwright Street Gallery Cartwright Street Gallery ts a non-profit, publiely-funded gallery founded in 1940 for the exhtbition of contemporary and traditional eraft and folk art, regional ase well as international. The first gallery of tts type in Canada, it was eatablished to foster ard encourage the eracftamaniike practises and attitudes which affect not juet chjeete made by hand, but ali areas of our matertal eulture. Through tte ongoing exhibition program, the Cartwright Street Gallery beth stimilatea public awarenesa of erafte and nur- turea craft preduetion over a wide range and at all levels. Exhibitions, educational and research programe are supported through grants from all fevele of Government and vartous charitable foundations, as well as corporate and private do- nations, memberships and special fwid-raising projecte. Last year's fund-rateing auction featured the work of over 50 leading artist/craftamen and raised in excess of $20,000 to- ward the Gallery's firet year of operation. Through the Gallery's second annual Auction, scheduled for June 3, 1982 at the Four Seasons Hotel Ballroom, it ta hoped to mise $30,000 to enable the Gallery to continue ite support of "the pursuit of excellence." Robert Davidson, Suwa Kupesyneki, Joanna Stantaakia, Karl Stittgen and Bil Reid are gust some of the over 80 leading Camadian artist/eraftemen who have donated outatanding ex- amples of their work to the Auetton.
