Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique Annual Report 2002-2003 = = > Communications, suite Awarding of the Prix Napoléon Gareau On June 7, 2002, at a reception that took place as part of its 57th Annual General Meeting, the FFCB awarded the Prix Napoléon Gareau to Ms. Henriette Moreau. Ms. Moreau has been a member of the Société francophone de Victoria since 1970, member of the Association historique francophone de Victoria since 1987 (she was president of this association for five years from 1996 to 2001) and member of the Conseil paroissial St-Jean-Baptiste since 1995. She began her career in teaching French at the age of 18, and was honoured in 1967 by Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization that recognizes exceptional merit in women in education, and in 1995 by the French Consul General in Vancouver who awarded her with the Palmes Académiques. She is a woman of many talents, including signing. She sang with the Vancouver Opera Society for more than nine years. Scholarships Every year, the Fédération des francopho- nes de la C.-B. awards an honorary certificate and $1000 scholarship to recognize the efforts of graduates of the Francophone Program. This year, the prize was awarded to Sophie Verrier, graduating from the Francophone Program at LEcole Brodeur in Victoria, in recognition of her hard work at the secondary level and to encourage her to pursue post-secondary studies in French. Ms. Verrier was singled out for her commitment to community and her academic success. Her list of accomplishments is a long one, and she continues to give of her time and energy out of love for the French language and her personal commitment to issues that affect the Francophone community in Victoria, an investment for which the Francophone associations in Victoria are very grateful. Public speaking competition Every year, the Fédération des francophones de la C.-B. awards a prize of $100 to the winner of a public speaking competition organized by Canadian Parents for French. On May 5, 2003, The Fédération recognized Daryl Gunn, graduate of the Immersion Program at Brookswood School in Langley, for the exceptional quality of her delivery and speech. Pierre Blouin, FFCB Treasurer, awarded the prize on behalf of the Fédération and was a judge for the event. On behalf of the FFCB, Pierre Blouin (Treasurer of the FFCB) presented the award to Ms. Daryl Gunn.
