Recommendation:

It is recommended that the school rate for renting ice skates be
increased from $0.55 to $0.75 effective immediately.

Purpose/Probiem:

The purpose of this report is to provide information and a
recommendation regarding the proposal to increase the ice skate
rental rate charged to schools when they are using our facilities.

History/Background:

As a result of a review of the 1991 approved schedule of fees and
charges, it has come to our attention that we are substantially below
the market average for skate rental charges for school use. As can
be seen on the attached chart, the skate rental. rate charged by the
other municipalities ranged from the low in Coquitlam of $1.00 (1990)
to a high in Port Moody of $1.55 (1990). Port Coquitlam is currently
charging $0.55 (1991).

‘In addition, Coquitlam charges $25.00/hr (1990) for school use of the
arena during school time. Port Moody and Port Coquitlam do not
charge anything.
