SUBJECT: Replacement of Traffic Controller at Coast Meridian an
(Public Works Cormittee Meeting May 9, 1989)

RECOMMENDATIONS :

a. That the traffic signal controller System located at the intersection
of Coast Meridian and Prairie be replaced for an estimated cost of
$10,000.

b. That the necessary funds for this project be taken out of the 1989
Unallocated Public Yorks Capital Budget.

BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:

The attached report from the Operations Manager provides some background
to this request. Council members would recall the recent need to replace two
other controllers; one at McLean and Pitt River Road (1988) and the other at
McAllister and Shaughnessy (earlier this year). These two controllers were
replaced after exhaustive efforts to Find replacement parts failed. Since the
controller at Coast tieridian and Prairie is of similar vintage it is expected
that it too will be beyond repair soon. The approval of this request will
hopefully prevent the occurrence of an axtenced period of unscheduled Gelays
to traffic at this intersection.

It iS proposed that the estimated $10,000 needed for this project be taken
from the 1989 Unallocated Public tiorks Capital Bucget.
