Seconded by Alderman Wright: That the Minutes of the regular meeting of this Council held on August 13th, 1979 be taken as read and adopted. Carried. Alderman Laking returned to the Council Chamber at 7:58 p.m. and took his place at the table. 1 TST ten a eater amen Alderman Mabbett made a presentation to Council stating the May Day Float had been in three parades and had won trophies at each. Alderman Mabbett expressed appreciation on behalf of the City to Mrs. Elaine Cramer for her work in designing this year's float and to Mrs. Cramer and the people of the May Day Committee for the work they did decorating the float for the parades. Notice of Hearing: re His Worship Mayor J.M. Campbell advised the meeting the hearing Huntington Rubber Mills of regarding the "Huntington Rubber Mills of Canada Limited Building Demolition Canada Ltd. Bldg. Demolition B/L, 1979. NOTICE OF HEARING: By-Law, 1979, No. 1691" would now be held. The Senior Building Inspector, Mr. N. Chernoff, advised the meeting ‘the Huntington Rubber Mill site is a safety hazard and therefore the City proposes to clear the property to ensure there is no safety risk. Mr. K. Anstey, a lawyer representing the Province of British Columbia in regard to unpaid sales tax advised the property is the subject of a foreclosure action and that a Real Estate Agent is attempting to find a purchaser for the property. Mr. Anstey then proceeded to give some background information and stated in his opinion the Municipal Act does not give the Municipality the power to act in the manner intended as set down by the proposed By-law. Mr. T. Wright, 829 Baker Drive, Coquitlam, B.C., spoke on behalf of the employees’ position regarding :the Huntington Rubber Mill. Discussion ensued on the safety hazard of the property and it was concluded that the owners of the property would be responsible if anyone was hurt because of the condition of the site as it now stands.
