Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Kanger: That as recommended in a report from the City Administrator, April 15th, 1977, Mr. Nick Chernoff, Chief Building Inspector, be authorized to attend the Building Inspectors' Conference in Vancouver from May 11th to 13th, 1977, and that Mr. L.D. Pollock, City Administrator, Mr. R.A. Freeman, City Clerk, and Mr. J.G.S. Maitland, City Treasurer, be authorized to attend the annual Municipal Officers' Conference at Fairmont Hot Springs from May 31st to June 3rd, 1977, with the expenses of all the said employees attending their respective conferences being paid by the City. From the City Clerk, April 14th, 1977, advising of two formal applications received for permission to operate neighbourhood pubs at 3274 Coast Meridian Road and in the shopping centre proposed to be constructed at the South~east corner of Coast Meridian Road and Prairie Avenue, and submitting for information, a copy of the Provincial regulations respecting the establishment of neighbourhood pubs. At 8:40 p.m. Mayor Campbell vacated the Chair and left the Council Chamber due to the fact that he presently holds an indirect interest in the Golden Eers Hotel (an established licensed premises in this City) by reason of holding a mortgage thereon, and Alderman Ranger then took the Chair in his absence. A discussion ensued, and Alderman Laking stated he felt a Public Information Meeting should be held to obtain the views of the City's residents with respect to neighbourhood pubs; however, Alderman Thompson stated he felt that the applications should first be submitted ‘to the Planning & Zoning Committee for consideration, as is the usual practice.
