Harrison sets record in Klassic road race IN A KERMODEI Klassic of fast times, Richard Harrison posted the fastest yet in the Men’s 10km. In perfect conditions, cool but dry, Smithers’ perennial winner chopped 48 seconds off his 1992 record, setting a new mark of 32:59, Well clear by the time he climbed Skeenaview Hill, Har- tison was never pressed in beat- ing out Prince Rupert duo Frank ~ Falvo and Bernd Guderjahn. But the coast city club was not - to be denied in the female 10km where Cheryl Martello repeated last year’s win and slashed two and half minutes off her ’93 time in doing so. It was Hazelton’s tum to celebrate in the female 5km, but only just Lyndsay Belisle crossed in 20:31 to take the overall title, a scant three seconds ahead of Ter- race’s Sue Simpson. Carrie McLeod and Karen Kel- ly came in together under two minutes later to give Terrace third. And the home ciub finally got an overall title in the Men’s 5km with Ed Ansems finishing in 17:27, half a minute clear of an- other local, Gord Buxton, while Steven Critchley completed a Terrace sweep. In the age group categories, hometowner Sherrie Hamer couldn’! catch Debbic McFayden of Prince Rupert in the female 35- 39 years 10km while Gail Sheasby and Donna Latimer crossed together to Terrace third. In the master female category, Rose Schibli was a minute back of Kitimat winner Pauline Savard. , oF In the male 10km, Justin Keitch was the lone juntor entry but had reason to be happy with his 40:10 performance, the sixth fastest overall. Alan Neufeld and Dave Cater were the closest Terracites to Harrison in the 20-39 years divi- sion, crossing together in 41:07 to tie for fifth with Kevin Kelly 26 seconds further back in seventh. Bob Sheasby finished fourth in the 40-44 years category while Neil Fleischmann went one better in the master males.
