The Commissioners vi Terrace are
breathing easier now that the rain
of the week filled the new ‘water tank,
to overflowing. The added pressure

brought to light. serious leaks that dur-

ing the past summer sertously depleted
the water supply. On: Tuesday morn-
ing as the water rose ‘rapidly, , in the
tank, the commissioners were puzzled
hy the Jack of pressure in- the :down-
town ‘aren. An examination ‘'shoult
thiut there were no air pockets" ‘holding

rounds they discovered a new. spring
in the road immediately opposite the
residence of Rk. SS. Christy. Rolly
Beecher and a sturdy ‘ crew: “rdved the

The investigations showed: that two
lengths of pipe had been badly split
by frost, so much-so that most of the
water pumped during the past summer
had escaped into the gravel. As the
pipe had been jaid about two ond a
half feet below the surface the Com-
missioners ordered the new pipe put
o foot and a half deeper, With the
completion of this work and stupping
one or two other leaks the pressure
rose to normal. : t.. ;

Tt is understood the Commissioners
are not entirely satisfied that all the
leaks have been found, There is the
possibility of other parts in the mains
heaving been damaged by frost at one
time or another,’ aid’as siéme of the
private installations aie: now many
years old it is possible that leaks have
developed along those lines, and the
commissioners have under enosidera-
tion the purchase of a léak detector,
and then make a complete survey ‘of
the water system. .

Smithers took the lead for the Bul-

the outlying districts.
The response was more than gener-

start a second car but there was cer-
tainly no call for help sent to Terrace
or any other place as the people of
Smithers never staré anything that
they cannot finish,
It transpired that ‘apparently the
committee in Terrace sent their ear
away before the good people of that
district had gotten all their donations
loaded into it and Terrace {t was that
sent Gut the call for. help to know if
they could send 11 sacks of vegetables
to Smithers to go in the second car
from this place. The vegetables came
along and rolled out of Smithers on
the 26th along with the good Bulkley
Valley spuds and cabbage.
