To: BC Ministry cf Environment ° Work with local organizations to develop consumer education programs to reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources, environmentally harmful products, and unnec- essary packaging. | To: BC Ministry of Education © Initiate and fund an independent educational program to inform the public of the damage done to the marine environment by the use of toxic materials in homes and industry, and to create educational materials that are useful to the general public. ° Develop curricula and materials for elementary through secondary levels to provide students with a thorough understanding of the ecological imperatives that are neces to sustain life in this region. Such programs should integrate all disciplines and include a study of the interconnectedness of all life and the human impact on other species. ° Support and encourage the development of integrated environmental education pro- grams in which information, resources and action projects are shared among colleges, universities, schools, youth groups and community organizations. ® Using successful locally-developed native studies programs as a guideline, develop, in cooperation with native bands, native studies curricula and materials for native and non- native students at all levels. To: BC Library Association Environmental Committee ¢ Develop environmental resource and communications centres in each community of the region as an adjunct to the library system, to enable local non-governmental organizations to help, support, and inform each other on common issues. These centres should be developed as interactive, public use facilities that will make available computer network- ing, information systems and staff to train people to use the resources.
