Recommendation:

That the May Day Parade Route as outlined in the attached map be
approved.

Background & Comments:

The proposed route is the same as that used in the past several
years. This route has proved to be the most effective route
despite concerns expressed by merchants in the past. Considera-
tion was given to utilizing Elgin rather than McAllister, but
this would mean that the transit system would not be able to
operate and the transit authorities would not go along with such

a change.

As well as the transit concern, there is also the concern of
emergency vehicles. If we used Elgin Avenue this would make it
virtually impossible for emergency vehicles to use the underpass.
