February 21st, 1977 rented by a single senior citizen (on minimum income) for $70. per month or by a couple for $132. per month. - Vacancies to date are as follows: no 2 bedroom townhouses; 21- 3 bedroom available for April Ist and 23 for May lst; 3 senior citizens units; 2 handicapped persons units; no 1 bedroom apartments; 12-2 bedroom apartments. -the community centre should be available for general use in March with many of the recreational programmes being provided by the "Y" -Day Care Centre has been licenced for 25 children (ages 3 to 5) and in September a Nursery School will commence. -the residents themselves have organized several activities, clubs and ‘self-help’ arrangements. -there has been one eviction to date due to non-payment of rent. -there have only been the usual minor problems connected with new residences with respect to finishing etc. Alderman Laking questioned the removal of trees along the south boundary and enquired if fencing was to be constructed to protect the privacy of residents and a brief discussion regarding the general fencing of the development ensued. Alderman Traboulay commended and congratulated Mr. Casson on the apparent success of the development in buiiding of a "city within a city' and further that it provided subsidized rental accommodation. With regard to the projected numbers of children requiring accommodation in local schools, Mr. Casson indicated the present figures appear to be somewhat lower than originally anticipated. In response to Alderman Traboulay's specific question regarding the quality of materials used and quality of construction as a whole, Mr. Doug Spears, Chairman of the Ist Cluster Organization, advised that the tenants were very happy with the quality of construction and felt that any defects were similar to those normally found in any new construction and had been readily remedied. He further noted that having lived in apartments for a number of years, he found the soundproofing in these units to be very good and, in fact, better than average. Regarding outside use of the Day Care Centre, Mr. Casson advised that if the facility has any vacancies after the residents had been accommodated, the Centre would be available to others in the community at the rate of $140.00 per month. Alderman Mabbett added his congratulations on the success of the development and enquired if the G.V.R.D. would be prepared to undertake further developments of this kind to which Mr. Casson replied to the affirmative providing higher
