Sound System - Port Pecreacion Centre: received outlining Phase #1 and the cost thereof, After much discussion it vas decided that although che sound system as it exists is not ideal, it is tempaardly satisfactory. Priorities should be considered and at the present time the storage area is inadequate, the dressing zooms are too ‘mal and an expenditure of this size for a sound system is not desired at this time. It was pointed out that perhaps the sound systen could be included as a specific item in next years Capital Rudget, Recor.nendation: That the Committee agree with the report of Barron & Strachan but wish to defer action on the sound system until final plans for Phase II ere completed. 2. Undergraduate Society of the University of British Colambiat A letter from Recreation Undergraduate Society of the University of British Columbia requesting financis] aid for their 1972 conference, Mr. Griffith outlined the need for this donation but it was pointed ont the Council's nolinw of allowing no grante for 1972. . Recommendation: That no grant be given to the Undergraduate Society of the University of British Columbia in Light of Council's decision on grants and that a letter be sent in support of their cause but expieinirg that the City’s 1972 Council's policy is to allow no grants on behal€ of the City of Port Coquitian, 3. Centennial Tool Enclosure: (For Information) . Discussion at zength regarding the covering of Centennial Pool, and it was generally agreed that this project is the first of its kind in North America and should, therefore, be studied to make sure all aspects ae the structure are sound and that the ventilation produces the correct atmosphere within the stru- etre, Since this is « first, it is very difficult to be really sure and it was suggested that Mr. Davies be appresched with a view to the promotion angle with Alcon Aluminum Company of Canada to have e delegation fiy to England (the Nearest model of its kind) te chserve 8 structure of ita kind in operation. Although the cost of covering the pool is rominal compared to building a new structure i¢ 18 considered economically unwise to purchase something no one knows anything about and it would be beneficial to Alcan as a promotional effort since many other local municipalities could be interested in the same kind of structure. Mr. Griffith was asked to contact Mr. R. Davies and in turn Alcan Aluminum Company to see if a trip to England could be arranged in order that this type of structure could te studied first hand. 4. Parks and Recreation Department Provisional Budeet 1972: (For Information) An in depth discussion took place regarding the necessity of supervised playgrounds and {t was generally agreed there is definitely a necessity for supervised playgrounds. Chairman, Alderman Thompson suggested that one member of the School Board for School Diatrict #43 be 2nvited to be s member of the Parks and Recreation Committee. Mr. Griffith was seked to write a letter to the Schsol Board inviting one of the Port Coquitlam School Trustees to become a member of the Parks and Recreation Committce,
