There ig a new marketing site based in
Victona called myhandmade.com Their
site is not yet funconing, buthasa browser
model set up for potential artists and cli-
ents. The grind opening was some tine in
April. Now they are actively seeking
crafispeaple ip advertise on their site. The
rates amd conditions are listed on the site in
US dollars, an obvious indication of their
target murkel Ascralispeople, we have no
idea of the efficacy of this type of advertis~
ing. Will ut be better than advertising in
magazines? It is certainly cheaper.

Have a look at guild.com and also at
ceramicseulpture.com, Both sites offer
advertising for ceramic work. Guild.com
is (ree; ceramicsculpture.com charges a

yearly rate and both actively advertise in
Magutines largeling home decorating.

Even if you are mot interested in using the
intemet as an advertising tool, these sites
are greal lo browse (hrough to have a look
at contemporary craft. I°ll keep you posted
en any other cyber advertising that comes
to me via the Guild web site.

Celia, Nathan and Linda came with me to
Sumas brickworks to collect the 40) [2" x
L2* extruded flue liner sectrons. [1 was a
real eye opener for studio potters to be
poking around this indusinal operatice.
Oneal lhe enormous brick kilns was linng
and the figures are staggering - |4 burners,
each 1,000,000 BT's. A linng takes a
week including a 24 hr soak at top tem-
perature.

Loading at the brickworks was easy with
the fork lift but for storage at the Shadbolt
Centre for the Arts, it was ome ata time, cut
to" lengths, damped down and wrapped
in plastie on their own boards

The Burnaby Secondary Schools are ex-
cited to be invelved and should be onta
their sechons later in April after their im-
tial planning. They will be working on the
two poles designated for Bumaby's present
und future, leaving the pole for the past to
VETLOUS COMUMUNICY groups.
