On the good side, my friends find it entertaining, my husband hopes ]’ll get rich, and ‘I get my newspaper free. But it isn’t always easy to find the quiet time for writing, and when _ T have an ‘‘off” week, it shows. And. some. writers look down o their noses at a ‘lowly’? colum- ' nist; But I do get a thrill now and then: comments, sugges- tions” and: letters. I recently received a letter from Mr. Henry Wiebe (no relation) of Kit- chener, Ontario. Yes, the Ter- race Review is actually sent. to Ontario, Mr, Wiebe writes: _ “How about ‘little boys’ as a subject for one of those columns — you know, the little creatures that teachers and little girls prac- tise on? I’ve been enjoying this delightful sub-species since school-ending during its periodic incursions onto our lot — they like our trees, my pile of building blocks, and our sloping: driveway for skate-boarding. .if there’s trouble at school, it’s usually boys who are in it. I remember a principal — Miss Smart — spearing me: ‘Henry, why can’t you be nice, like your sister Susie?’ Got me, didn’t she?” _ Well, Mr. Wiebe, it?s a wonderful’ suggestion. Unfor- tunately, little boys: are dirt- grass-stained little. Skeena Fall. Fair to begin contributed by Janny Wassink . To all our exhibitors: please bring your exhibits to the Thorn- hill Community Hall Friday, Sept. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. And to you; our visitors: the Fair is a great way to end the summer, In keeping with the objectives of Fall Fairs, which is to pro- mote the cultivation of the soil and the general development of agriculture and- homemaking ‘arts, as well as providing you, with educational displays, we have tried to bring ‘you exactly that, and we sincere- ly hope you will enjoy all of it. The popular honeybee display can be viewed again in the Ex- hibition Hall, and in the barn we have a display of just-hatched little chicks as well as informa- tion on egg production, with recipes - and activity books for kids. , - And when ‘‘a bite to eat’! is in - ‘order, there are concessions in the Hall, again manned by the Terrace Figure Skating Club, and out by the corral, the Totem Saddle Club canteen. There will be entertainment at various times; and Leo De Jong will be the ever popular auctioneer for ‘the 4-H livestock auction as well as the auction Sunday at 3._p.m. in the e Hall. Come and enjo, y! would use. up a liter of liquid = Tide. Little boys tend to spit and wrestle with dogs, two disgust- ing activities that I avoid. And imagine what their mothers would say if-I.wrote about the rude nosies boys make with their hands in’ their armpits. 1 couldn’t stand to get ‘hate mail’’ about that. This Mr. Wiebe is now a retired English teacher, but if Miss Smart had to get after him, I can well imagine the kind of lit- tle boy he once was. He prob- ably dug worms, caught grass- - hoppers, and snickered behind: the teacher’s back. I’ll bet that when he was six, he lost a front - tooth and spit water through the» empty space at his sister. I wonder if he ever took a bath with his muddy rainboots on, or tried to flush a washcloth. Probably. He may have wiped his runny nose on his sleeve, too, or let a dog lick his face. And I should take a suggestion from a person who did those things? No way. I’m sorry, Mr. , Wiebe, you'll have to find someone else to air your sympathies for these grub- by, noisy tittle beings. ‘Little boys”’ as a topic for a column — it’s just not ‘“‘literary’ enough. You see, I’ve seen them when they’re all cleaned up,. dressed neatly, and told to behave themselves, The look most un- comfortable. Kinda like me. a THE SIGN OF A GOOD BUSINESS NEIGHBOR...
