Video Views is basically a movie review article based on the ‘Four Star’? method of rating movies (four stars being great, three being good, two being fair and one star being poor). If you have read our article and have an opinion or sug- gestion, we will always be glad to hear from you. Just send a letter to the editor, the address is in the ‘Opinions’ column of this paper. Patrick Mcintyre Entertainment Editorial The Academy Awards The Academy Awards. I had waited an entire year for this event, The production that would in- fluence my video rentals for months to come. However, not only was I severely disappointed with the format, but the winners were either too much of a surprise or no surprise at all. Giving it much thought, I have come up with some im- provements that must be made to make the Awards less of a private party and a more useful program to the viewer: 1) Get rid of all the awards except the acting, best picture, best director, cinematography, special effect, and possibly best score awards. 2) The Academy Awards shouldn’t judge songs. They should leave that to representatives who know about music — like the Grammys. 3) If you’re going to have an animated short award, show us the film clips — everyone likes a cartoon. 4) Have more voters, so as to have a better scope of the views of the movie industry; and in- crease the number of nominations, so people like Stephen Spielberg don’t get skipped. 5) Put Robin Williams on the show next year (as host, not co-host); he actually made the show reasonably fun. In closing, I think it was a definite mistake of the Academy in not nominating Stephen Spielberg. Not only was he named best director by the Director’s Guild, but he was also named one gponsored by Video Station . ta the Skeena Mall by Patrick Mcintyre & Philip Musselman Released......... evesevetsccsecssensess 1959 Starring: Peter Sellers (as practically everyone), Jean Sebero (Miss Koken), William Hartnell, David Koffoff, and Leo MacKern. What is the world coming to when a small backward country like Grand Fenwick could actually have a hold on such a prestigious coun- try? My answer is that the world has gone to the late Peter Sellers in one of his earlier films, that is affectionately known as The Mouse That Roared. And to our expectations, the small country of Grand Fenwick is populated by Peter Sellers (mostly because the founder elected to populate the country by himself). But how can a nation that arms itself with archers ever have a hope of defeating one armed with tanks, planes, ships, and bombs? Well, it is simple really. Grand Fenwick is supposed to lose. If you are lost, maybe you should see this film. Actually, this all makes sense if you think about it; a number of nations have declared war against the United States, and have lost only to be economically supported by the Americans anyway. This supposedly is so that these nations will not drift towards communism. To the average person this plan does seem quite sound, but you must remember Peter Sellers is in this movie. If you recall his Pink Panther films, then you could believe that this man is able to ruin even the most foolproof of plans. The situations presented in this film defy im- agination and create a delight that I had not an- ticipated. In fact, this movie is so strangely con- ceived that nothing could go wrong. The $110 million dollar fund has been named ‘‘ex- cellence in education’’, said Dr. Val George. by Sherry Halfyard Since NWCC is a multicampus operation, this requires a unique cost allocation system, said George. Last year the Prince Rupert campus was allocated $80,000 in special funding. This year the excellence in education fund will be raising the financial con- tribution to $150,000. Also an_ additional $86,000 will be given to the Aqua culture pro- gram (fish farming), in Prince Rupert. George said NWCC started the Aqua culture program a few weeks ago and this funding will keep the program in operation. So far the Terrace Campus has not received notice of money from the education in ex- cellence fund, George suspects the funding will take into account the in- flation factors for the next fiscal year at the college. ‘‘We will prob- ably hear of our fund- ing for the Terrace cam- pus in the next two to three weeks’’, said George. started off the French New Wave, La Nouvelle Vague.
