GEORGE SINKEWICZ. Administrator CRAMPTON & BROWN, Solicitors (14-20,21,27,28D) REPO@RE to consumers CRISPNESS TEST In an attempt to test advertising claims, a Florida newspaper recently con- ducted an experiment to determine the crispest breakfast cereal flakes. The ad was for Team Flakes and pledged that product to stay crisper in milk than other flakes. Nabisco, the company that created Team, said in its ads that hunglyeds of cereal lovers were © ‘ed and tested by one of the coun: try's leading independent research companies. The testers all ate identical bowls of Team Flakes along with the leading corn, wheat and oat cereals. The same amounts of cereal and milk—at the same tempera- ture—were put in each bowl. Opinions were taken at 30 second intervals, and the re- searchers concluded that the Team Flakes stayed crunch- ier than its competition. The newspaper in its test, measured an ounce of each type of cereal into separate bowls and poured into each bowl four ouncea of milk. After a four-minute soak (about the time it takes to eat a bowlful of cereal) a flake was retrieved from the ho‘tom of each bowl, HEHE, Ee FOUR FLAKES: Team (the top spoon), an oat flake, a wheat flake and a carn flake faced rough crispness test. According to the paper, “The oat and corn flakes were unadulterated mush. The wheat flakes bravely tried to stand out from the crowd and garnered a poor second place, But it was clearly Team's day. Team was firm, full-bodied, proud.” He concluded that Team stays crisper and crunchier longer. TV now 50 years old Happy birthday, TV! Yes, believe it or not, the medium that = spawned everything from “My Mother, the Car" to live coverage of the first man on the moon is marking its 50th birthday this year. While TV today is the number one source of enter- tainment and information for millions of people, the TV pieture wasn't always so bright. The origins of this technological wonder were humble, and it was a long time before TV became a fixture in almost every American home. Discoveries in the field of physics in the late 1800s and early 1900s set the groundwork for television, but it wasn’t until 1928 that the first TV set was de- veloped and demonstrated. Its inventor was Dr, E.F.W, Alexanderson of General Electric. For a long time, TV was thought of as little more than a gimmick, Few people realized its potential, Only after World War II did tele- PUBLIC vision cease being con- sidered a toy, and although cabinets were large and stylish, most screen sizes were only len inches. As TV grew, so did screen sizes, till today many American homes have sets with 25-inch diagonal screens. But, tt seems, the average-size screen may be: come even bigger und betier. General Electric has - just introduced a sereen three. limes larger than the common 25-inch version. Called the Widescreen 1000 Home Television Theatre, this handsome set is a one- piece unit featuring VIR Broadeast Controlled Calor, random access remote elec: tronic tuning, and dual speakers with impraved sound, It comes in a cabinet 650 inches high, 70 inches long and only 24 inches deep. With its live coverage of history-making events, more sophisticated ‘shows and new giant screen, TV in its 40th year may finally have come of ge.
