RIVERWOOD COMMUNITY SCHOOL SITE DEVELOPMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF 400 METRE RUNNING TRACK AND FIELD EVENT FACILITIES, REPORT: On July 7, 1993 the City of Port Coquitlam, Parks and Recreation Department retained the services of Arena Sports §& Recreation Consultants Ltd., to undertake an assessment and report on the Site proposed for construction of the new Riverwood Community Senior Secondary School. The purpose of the assessment wags to determine the land space requirements and the suitability of the Site for the development of a 400 metre Running Track and Field Event Facility at this location. The Parks and Recreation Department in its Planning for future development of Sports and recreation facilities includes the requirements for Track an i Options open for hosting the B.c, = Games Events in near future and the Possibilities of jJOining with the Coquitlam School Board in the development of the track and field facilities with construction of the new senior secondary school. To nost the B. C. Summer Games, the design and specifications for construction of the track and field facilities must meet the National Standards of the Canadian Track and Field Association in order for the venue to be sanctioned for National Area and Provincial Championships, this is also a requirement for hosting the B. C. Summer Games Events. The National Standards call for: 400 metre, 8 lane Running Track with Steeplechase Water Jump Pit. Field Event Facilities for Long and Triple Jumps, High Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Put, Discus, Hammer and Javelin Throws.
