V3C 2A8 Dear Mayor and Council: Re: Proposal of Genstar to Log Land on Burke Mountain. Your Council are no doubt aware of the longstanding proposal for a third mountain park in the Vancouver region, on Burke Mountain. Burke Mountain offers excellent terrain for both winter and summer use. The joint Provincial/G.V.R.D/Municipal “Coquitlam Area Mountain Study" of 1982 defined boundaries for the park and recommended that it become a Class “A” Provincial Park by 1987. While most of the area within the proposed park bound- aries is Crown land, about 600 acres are private lands owned by the Genstar Development Company. The Genstar Lands, being at the centre of the park, encompass two of the park's finest potential assets, Munro and Dennet Lakes. The Coquitlam Area Mountain Study recommended that the Province consider acquiring these lands. It has come to Coquitiam's attention that Genstar now plans to log their lands. Such logging could devastate the core of the park. This is a regicnal issue, since Burke Mountain will serve a regional market, as Cypress and Seymour Parks now do. In addition to being a regional issue, it is an issue that will impact most greatiy on the adjacent Municipalities and with this in mind, the Coquitlam Council at its’ meeting of September 26, 1988 adopted the following resolution:
