THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM -2- long term parking so that employees of the downtown firms have a place to park their car where it does not conflict with the shoppers’ parking. It was felt that the only way to control this back part of the lot so that it is not used up by commuters would be to require permits issued by City Hall and that these permits should be provided for a fee. The most suitable fee would be that same fee which is also charged to other permit holders within the City, namely $10.00 a month at this time subject to periodic review. Under this system, employees or the merchants themselves would also have to purchase permits for the privilege of long term parking within this lot. The three~hour designation on the back part of the lot is there mainly as a device to allow us to regulate the long term parking. However, it has been pointed out that there are some legitimate downtown destinations which require more than the standard two hours and a three hour limit would nicely cover these. Council should be aware that if we charge for long term parking on this lot, we will need to be prepared to extend the limited time parking to some of the residential streets surrounding the downtown in order to prevent commuters and employees from switching their long term parking to these residential streets. ki F.E/ Peters, P.
