enad SAVE HOWE SOUND SUCIRry We regret that the GaV.R.D. appears to nave retirea to a weaker position on the disposition of Gambier Island. Last week they declined to support the Lstands Trust in calling a halt now to the mining exploration. Yet, as recently reported in one of their own newsletters, they requested to be kept informed by Cabinet about the proposed mining operation and asked to be heard, in regard to the proposal betore any Cabinet decision was made, Wny they side-stepped the issue by referring it back to their statf is certainly a batfling mystery. ‘rhis seems unnessary. It is common knowledge that of the approximately 10U kilometres of mainland coastline stretching from Horseshoe Bay to Gibsons, over one-half is either zoned for industry or is being currently used Dy industry. Common sense decrees tnat to _insure Howe Sound remaining a major recreational area, it is absoiutely imperative to act now so that tne few remaining beach areas, foreshore and adjacent lands be exempted from future industrial expansion. ’ Could we count on your Council to join other Councils in the Lower Maintand area in promoting sane development for Howe Sound? You will note the enclosed copy of a resolution supmitted to both senior governments by West Vancouver Municipal Council. Could we invite you to send in your own resolution calling on these governments to declare Howe Sound a recreational area in perpetuity? Yours truly, SAVE HOWE SOUND SOUIErY preeen/! TI).
