fe : _ Ve. Cant | C LL. THE POTTERS' GUILD OF BRITISH COLUMBIA 315 West Cordova Street, Vancouver, B.C. V6B 1E5 NEWSLETTER October, 1975 Dear Potters: Our next General Meeting date is Wednesday, October 15th at 8:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Church at 49th and Oak Street in Vancouver. Remember our meetings are the THIRD WEDNESDAY of each month this year. Mark those dates on your calendar now so you don't miss them. This is a nice meeting place and we would like to see you there. PROGRAM: This month's program is one in which you can all participate - sort of a "Do it Yourself" program. Please bring your good ideas, your problems, or your solutions to problems. Any ideas that have made your studio more efficient, your solutions may solve someone's problems and in turn someone may have the ans- wer to your difficulties. Where possible please bring a pot or whatever is required to illustrate your point. 1 think this could be most informative and great fun. Membership fees were due on September 39th. Please pay promptly - remember you pay a lower commission at the annual sale - 25% instead of 40% for non members. Travell4+ng Show: Marie von Hausmann displayed this show at the last meeting. It fs an excellent collection of porcelain, salt glazed and lustre glazed ware and photo decal. Marie has spent much time and effort assembling this show and we are very grateful to her. To date there have been very few requests from people who wish to display this show in their community. Shipping charges are being equalized so the cost should be approximately ten dollars to each group. Come on folks - let us know soon when you would like this show so Marie can.plan an itinerary. She hopes to get it on the road by mid October. The show of ancient pottery at the Fort Langley Museum has been extended to October 12th. It is beautifully displayed and has been thoroughly enjoyed by all who have seen it. Don't miss it!! The dates for the B.C. Craftsmen Association Show were changed tos September 27th to October 16th. Their gallery is at 801-207 West Hastings in Vancouver and the show is open from 10a.m. - 3p.m. Monday to Friday. There is a Commissions Registry at the B.C.C.A. office and | am told that potters are very sparsely represented. Anyone interested in working on commissions can have a sheet of twenty slides or prints of their work included in this registry. These can be shown to prospective customers who come to the gallery and who wil] then contact the potter. For further information contact Rebecca Davies, Marketing Chairperson, at their office: Phone number is 681-9613, or write to 801-207 W. Hastings, Vancouver, B.C. V6B 1H7. WESTERN POTTER: The reason there hasn't been one is that our editor, Ruth Meechan, has been waiting and WAITING for promised articles and to date has received very little. Remember the editor's job is to "'edit'' what is sent to her, not write the whole thing! The prospects for an early issue look rather bleak at present but if you'll get those articles in soon it will be a great help. If any of you have visited any interesting galleries, fairs, potters etc., during your vacation we'd love.to hear about it. Reports of workshops or other activities in your area are all welcome. Canada Council Grants: ‘Aid to Artists applications are due on October 15th. Write to : The Canada Council, Arts Awards Service, P.0. Box 1047, Ottawa, Ont. KIP 5V8. MEXICO: Would you like to go to the World Crafts Council's Conference in Mexico, June 6th - 12th, 1976? Brenda Davie has very kindly offered to organize a group from B.C. and has found that fares and accommodations are quite reasonable. Applications must be made early as possible as only 900 from outside Mexico can attend. Write for your reservation at the Conference to: Canadian Crafts Council, Suite 16, 46 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ont. KIP 5K6.
