oppose Canada’s adoption of new cules and policies 1o
meet the international agreement,

The: international agreement aims to reduce produc-
tion of greenhouse gases to halt climate change, but cri-
ties say it will dramatically drive up business costs and
penalize the energy: industry,

They’re saying ‘no’ to Kyoto

Terrace directors Jack Talstra and Marylin Davies
were among’ those who backed the. motion opposing
Kyoto. Dissenting directors — who favoured adopting
Kyoto — were Thornhill director Les Walmough and Ha-
zelton mayor Alice Maitland.

There was no debate on the merits of the Kyoto ac-
cord, although directors did debate first whether or not
the regional district should take any position on it. Na-

tionally, Alberta strong opposes the accord.
