Seven years later the ju- nior ringettes returned to the “B” provincials and charted this city’s best performance at the provincial level in Abbotsford March 17-19. In their pool of four teams, Terrace came out slow after a two-day road trip to Abbotsford and lost to 9-2 to Nanaimo in their first game. Melanie Krug scored the team’s only two goals. Terrace rebounded quickly te beat Port Coquit- lam 11-4 in their next game. Both goalies, Kristin Daumont and Jasmine Wil- liams, played well. Melanie Krug was Ter- race’s top scorer, netting four goals. Roz Smith scored another two goals and individual goals went to Nikki MacKenzie, Kylie Bird Jasmine Williams and Danielle Billey. Terrace then went on a rolf in a fast and hard-hit- ting game against Burnaby. Melanie Krug pul the first goal in the net only to have Burnaby tie the game a few minutes later. Roz Smith scored next and Burnaby scored again to tie the game at half time. Both teams came back from the break skating fast and completing excellent passes. It wasn't until half- way through the second per-. icd that Allison Young got the ring free in front of the net and scored the game- winning goal, Melanie Krug secured the win 45 seconds later with her second goal of the game. Terrace then finished round-robin play against Port Coquitlam in their sec- ond 11-4 victory. Port Coquitlam never stood a chance as Roz Smith opened the scoring just three minutes into the ‘game, followed by two _poals by Melanie Krug and another goal by Danielle Billy. Port Coquitlam managed to put one on the board to make the score 4-1 going into the half. Melissa Beaupre started -the scoring in the. second half, with Melanie Krug, Roz Smith and Jasmine Williams adding goals. The game highlight came when Kayla Goriak scored on a break-away pass from ‘Nikki MacKenzie. Three wins advanced Terrace to the medal rounds Sunday, where they were pitted against a fast and skilled Enderby team. “The poal tenders kept the team in the game at first, but eventually the Olympic-sized rink and fast-skaling Enderby team resulted in a 7-0 loss for Terrace,” said parent, Joan Billey. Enderby went onto win the championship game against Vancouver. Terrace then advanced to the bronze-medal game against Nanaimo. Both teams came out fly- ing but Nanaimo started the scoring with three quick goals. Melanie Krug and Nikki Mackenzie fought back scoring two goals to put Terrace behind 4-2 at the half, which featured a fun sing-a-long rendition of the YMCA song. After the break, the teams played hard and Ter- race had many shofs on gaal but. only one by Melissa Beaupre went in. Roz Smith scored the tying goal two minutes later, then Nanaimo respon- - ded with one more goal. © With only three minutes left, Melissa Beaupre score a beautiful goal in the top corner to force the game into sudden death overtime.
