Ketchikan, Alaska; can’t wait’

to come here for the Northern
B.C. Winter Games. next
February, says one of that city’s
organizers.

“We had such a great time in
Prince Rupert (the games were

held there in 1989) and we're

looking forward to the same_
again,” said’ Susie Daly, Ket-
chikan’s parks and recreation _-

director last week.

The community has been ask-

ed to take part in 13 events that
could total ‘more than 80
athletes,

It is one of four
municipalities asked to send

athletes as a way of guarantee. -

ing them berths in the games
and because it would have been
difficult for athletes to travel to
zone competitions,
And although Ketchikan is in
Alaska, that has had little effect
on whether its residents could
participate or not.
“They’re very, very en-
thusiastic,. They contacted us as
long as a year ago when they

found the games. would -be in. -

Terrace,’’ said games chairman
Glenn Thomsen last week.

Daly said there was no ques- ~

licipate again after the 1989

tators and recreational skiers
wanting to travel to Shames
Mountain or Ski Smithers will
fill up the rest of the numbers,
said Daly.

The events Ketchikan has
been asked to. take part in are
mixed adult bowling, all boxing
categories, “carpet bowling,-
chess, duplicate bridge, all gym-
nastics categories, cross country
skiing, all swimming categories,
boys 16-18. volleyball, mixed.
water polo, all wrestling
categories, over 19 special olym-
pics bowling and swimming and
black powder,
