ey Letter from Masset,~ PAGE B4, THE HERALD, Wednesday, July 7, 1976 Queen Charlottes By Elvira Bryaat This will be one of those times when one is burning some of that midnight oi again. However there was a special request from the grand daughters for clean coats so I find myself u somewhat later than usual, while the machines are doing the work for me. Earlier this evening Tanis and I attende the Graduation Banquet for 1976. This year the graduates had made all of the arrangements and the Junior Ranks dining room _ was chosen. The acoustics are not the best there, but the food is excellent even though it took a good two hours for all the people to be served. Instead of leaving there for presentation of certificates at 9, which was to have taken place at George M. Dawson gym- nasium, the Last Will and Testament speech which ended the occasion, found us all leaving around 10:30. In the meantime many others were no doubt enjoying the music of the orchestra. The graduates had planned on a band from Vancouver, but the recent problems with the planes caused a cancellation. The same band was to have played at a June Ball tomorrow as well, and that event was therefore can- celled for this year. Ap- parently many corsages are available at the Bloom ‘N Shoes Florist store that had been ordered for the ball. It so happens the Beach Bugey Days people are holding the contest for queen tomorrow evening, SO some corsages will no doubt be used then. And about two days ago I was asked to play the piano for that event, 50 my Saturday afternoon will be indoors at a practice instead of ontdoors pulling up some seeds. This morning was the last time the gymmasium was “used for the examinations and now all the teachers have been. busy marking rs, writing on reports rnd record canis, or taking an inventory of the home room. The comments are very time consuming, but one needs to both commend and construet; often this is complicated to arrange in concise form, Monday afternoon ali the teachers will meet to discuss placements for the 1976-77 school year. Each year more organization is done to make this session shorter. I believe last year’s 1p.m. meeting lasted until 5 p.m. On Tuesday afternoon the pupils will return to the school for the presentation awards and their report cards. Monday evening our staff will be having a supper party together down at Mary's Cafe in Haida. Word has it that the food is good, but as yet Ihave never been down there to eat. (I hadn't been in the Kaien Credit Union offices until I took my Office Orientation class there last week on an office field trip, so in the three ears here it appears I[ ven't seeneverythingyet.) We didn't make the news lately as far as I know, but for awhile a lot of turmoil was brewing when an order ’ was sent around about the associate members of D.N.D. not going to be allowed to see the films shown there. By the time hone ¢alls had been made, etters sent and the students had been out picketing the location of the “branch of the family tree” for me to send to a cousin in the States who has retired, and has embarked on this project. That week-end I managed to fill in the data required on a form that had been sent to me, all readied for dates and the descen- dants on my side of the family. Fun and games again-it was about two years ago that I was involved by request in making one of these up for the large Irvine family, pioneers of Victoria. An interesting item from Ray Gray, who works in the Land Registry office was hearing ot many people who have been coming in to register parcels of land in the Terrace, Kitimat, and Queen Charlotte Islands areas. Papers have been given out to them at otlatches! Even Haida and has been asked for. However those receiving the papers have not read the fine print that slates this land will be theirs only after the governments have settled the Land Claims and returned the land, This week a nice thank you card was received from Laurene Warner and Stephen Chapman. Qur next guests for awhile will be the Woode family members, who will be here for a few weeks while their house is finished. Also friend Avis Delany will hopefully manage to come over for her visit before she moves down to Williams Lake with the family. Eleanor Laverty arrived back at Okanagan Falls just before Father’s Day from her stay in Hawaii and was called in to work at the Pilgrim House almost immediately, No doubt she is hoping to enjoy summer heat in the Okanagan area once again. 1 wouldn’t mind sharing a little of that myself about . Another day has gone by. It has been a very nice one weather-wise. [ have just returned from the - George M. Dawson gym- nasium where I was in-’, volved playing the piano in between speeches made b candidates for the Beac Buggy Queen contest. (There was that practice in the afternoon as well.) 1 was, . HOW. . yery pleased that the three who won the positions of queen and princesses were all choices I] would have made Strangely enough all three had been members of the English 114A class that F had First Semester, and it certainly looked and sounded as though the oral speaking experiences they had then_had really helped. Nadine Decemrini is this year’s queen. First princess is Cinda Harry, and second princess is Wanda Ward. Last year’s queen Jane Atkins, presented the crown to Nadine. It is very nice.to’ see all the girls in long dresses, a very pleasant change from the customary jeans! - In between the practice and supper making, I managed to plant some winter turnip and green bean seeds. As soon as school is out, quite a bit of time needs to be spent out in the garden since the weeds have started to flourish, and that isn't good. It was very:nice to receive: four Terrace papers in’ yesterday's mail-that is also the fastest trip mail has ever made to Masset, as the. envelopes had been stamped. June 24th. The swallows are busy again catching some of the night insects. Both mother swallows are on the nests each evening when we make a check, so no doubt there will be young ones to watch later. Some sandhill cranes spent around ten days coming in near the slough daily, but didn’t arrive while I was home today. The B.C, Canuck was into harbour for a few days last week-managed to sail in before a “lump” of weather arrived, as the saying goes here in boat language. Vic had managed quite well on his own, aside from one day's illness from some tainted meat. Qute a number have have asked to go out on the boat, but it looks as thogh Ed Woode will be the preferred one.in July sometime, In the meantime Tanis has been busy packing up boxes and bringing them over here. Some rooms are beginning to get a storage shed look! However by August we will have so. . much room the house will no doubt seem twice as large. The book I am into these days is ‘The Unobstructed Universe” by Steart Ed- ward White. When 1 bought the book I thought it would be about distant galazies, but it was only later that I found a sentence in finer print on the cover which says “An unparalleled detailed report of life after death”. Apparently there is only one universe. It seems to be a matter of vibrations. The obstructed universe, has time, space and motion, The parallel unchstructed universe had receptivity, conductivity and frequency, Each set of three is co- existent for that univers.e The essences are the three mentioned for the unob- structed universe. The essences are the three mentioned for the unob- structed universe and the are the reality.( Eac chapter of this particular book is well explained for anyone who wishes further. information about this topic. This is great bedtime reading for anyone who had difficulty getting to sleep.) I should not close before mentioning the fact that there has been one com- laint made about the of- ering of a course to do with the “occult” at the Secon- dary School. And just as I suspected, the complaint was from a “religious couple’. No book exists that is more occult than the Holy Bible with such things as burning bushes, three ople not being burnt in a iery furnace and soon, 1am reminded of “The Source” where in one particular chapter two groups of people who worshipped the same God, battled, and never even knew they ac- - tually had the same beliefs, We still lack such com- munication. a) Walk a block-Today. | Bee.
