RECOMMENDATION: THAT Council confirm the present policy that, in the event of activation of the Emergency Services Plan, homeowmers and businesses will be kept informed by way of our advice to radio and TV stations only. AND THAT this policy be established as the only means of notification in order to provide the best possible service to the public," BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS Following the flooding incident in November, 1990, the Emergency Services co-ordinator, Don Wicklund was asked to check into the feasibility of changing our present system of notifying residents and businesses who ’ 4 might be affected by any type of similar disaster in the future. He investigeted the possibility of direct contact by telephone, considering the following factors: (a) The need to maintain a comp..ete up-to-the-minute list of names, addresses and telephone numbers (b) Staff costs to establish and maintain such lists (c) Possible tie up of emergency phones required for more urgent rescue work (d) City liability incurred by setting up such a system (1) PAGE mY wry aig Naty
