There’s a patient from Kitimat expected and a person from Prince Rupert is going to move to Ter- race. Kidney dialysis patients need the service three times a week and while the unit here does make it possible for commutes from other northwestern lo- cations, driving during the winter months could be a challenge, Yeast noted. Patients are connected to the dialysis unit for be- tween three and four and a half hours. As well as being the manager of the unit, Yeast also works with the pa- tients as does another part time registered nurse. A third nurse has also been hired for holiday or other relief. The $1.4 million unit is open now three days a week with four chairs and two beds. As demand grows, there is the possibility of adding evening dialysis, said Yeast.
