Hostage taker jailed TERRACE — An Iskut man who held a woman at gunpaint during a hostage-taking incident this summer in Iskut has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. Myles Joseph Louie, 22, pleaded guilty to unlawful con- finement, pointing a weapon, and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace in connection with the July 30 inci- dent. Judge Paul R. Lawrence sentenced Louie, who appeared last month in Terrace court, to 18 months in prison and three years on probation. According to Crown pro- secutors, witnesses indicated an apparently emotionally disturb- ed Louie entered the Iskut village band office with a 30-30 rifle late in the afternoon. The. women working in the office escaped through a back door, but Louie found one of the *,Louie held Carlick at gune 4 point, and when she tried to li escape he fired the rifle several times into ‘the air, the door frame and into the floor, , pro- secutors said, She eventually escaped when Louie was distracted by other villagers surrounding the building.
