-the media and B12 = Terrace Review — Wednesday, April 3, 1991 PACIFIC NORTHWEST | The Gala Performance of the Pacific Northwest Music Festival March 23 was sold out. The atmos- sphere in the R.E.M. Lee Theatre was convivial and - gumny, an atmosphere complemented by the choice of _ George Clark as master of ceremonies for the evening. It was little wonder that spirits were high — the 26th annual festival was one of the most successful ever, with 4,098 competitors and a new level of national accreditation for the event. The performances fostered optimism that the provincial competitors chosen will put the region on par with any in B. C. These are the final results of all competitions: Contributed by Carol Zucchiatti The Pacific Northwest Music Festival concluded its 26th season with competition for scholarships on Friday, March 22 and a Gala Performance on Saturday, March 23. Winner of the Northern Drugs Scholarship (16 to 25 years) for $1,000 was a tie between Baukje Floris (piano) and T-Jay Mackenzie (instrumental), The Knights of Columbus Scholar- ship (13 to 15 years) for $500 ‘went to Jennifer Zucchiatti of Terrace for outstanding per- formance in voice and Bernice Liu of Prince Rupert received the Terrace Water Polo Associa- tion Scholarship (12 and under) of $250 for outstanding per- formance in ballet. Performers selected to com- pete at the provincial level in the B.C. Festival of the Arts in May were: Piano — Baukje Floris of Smithers, Julie Lee and Joshua Sager of Kitimat. Voice — Tina Hovenkamp, Andrea Arnold and Jennifer Zucchiatti, all of Terrace. Dance — Anna Liu and Ber- nice Liu of Prince Rupert. Speech Arts — Glenys George and Mark Tessaro of Terrace. Instrumental — T-Jay Mackenzie and Warren Con- nacher of Terrace and Kyle Girgan of Kitimat. Senior Ensemble — Caledonia Brass Trio.
